Stress is the body's way of keeping us safe from harm.
If you feel threatened, your nervous system floods the body with stress hormones, triggering the classic 'fight or flight' response. Short bouts of stress can be very useful for us; long term, they can cause us serious damage. Hypnotherapy can help, both in identifying the cause of the stress and also giving us mechanisms to control or alleviate it, even if you are unable to immediately remove the cause of the stress from your life.
Anxiety affects most of us at some point in our lives - worrying about our children, family, friends, money, etc. - looking for things that may go wrong. Sometimes this worry can get out of hand, leading to a variety of anxiety disorders. Sometimes we may not even know what we are worrying about. Sometimes, the worry and anxiety can get completely out of hand, even triggering panic attacks.
Through a combination of hypnotherapy and NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming) techniques, we can work together on reducing these worrying, anxious thoughts.
A phobia is a type of anxiety disorder where the person affected can have a totally overwhelming and often irrational fear of an object or situation.
A fear of heights is a fairly sensible fear to have as falling from one could cause us harm. It becomes a phobia when we have lost all perspective of the harm that could come to us.
Sometimes we can remember the cause of our phobia, sometimes we cannot. I cannot remember where my phobia of spiders came from, I just remember always having it. However, I can pinpoint the exact moment my daughters' phobia of them developed! It is no coincidence that my own mother was afraid of them too, as was her mother.
Fortunately, we all responded well to hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy can successfully treat phobias, however deep-seated they may be.
